BOSTON TERRIERS
Christi grew up with Boston Terriers in the 1950s, and they have been part of her life since childhood. Her foundation dog, Mikki (Stemco’s Mikki of Whalom, CD, TDI) was the start of Christi’s adventure into dog training and showing. Christi was led down the breeding/showing path by Nancy Washburn of Pequoag Bostons. Nancy bred our foundation dogs, CH Pequoag Whalom Super Miracle, CD, TT, TDI and CH Pequoag’s Twice as Nice. Many, many Bostons have passed through Whalom Kennel since the early days. Christi continued to expand her knowledge of the breed by being an officer of the Minuteman Boston Terrier Club for over 20 years. Although still a member, Christi prefers to sit on the sidelines and just enjoy her dogs these days.
Whalom Kennel has taken great pride in breeding, training, and showing Boston Terriers. We strive to produce healthy dogs with excellent temperament as companions and show dogs. All dogs used in our breeding program are CERF normal, OFA patella normal and BAER normal. The health statistics of all our dogs can be reviewed online at the Canine Health Information Center (CHIC). We think health is important. All of our dogs' test results are registered with the Orthopedic Foundation for Animals (OFA) and the Canine Eye Registration Foundation. We require a personal interview in order to become an approved home for one of our dogs. We try to get to know prospective owners as we like to match our puppies with the lifestyles and desires of people. All of our puppies are home raised, temperament tested, and socialized before they go to their new homes.
Currently, Christi has decided to take a pause from breeding Bostons, as she has decided to devote her time and energy to performance events. A few of Christi’s dogs that are owned by others, are currently in the ring achieving Rally and Obedience titles.
Bostons are active and smart, and make wonderful companions. They love to play, sleep under the covers, and think they are people in dog clothes. The Boston Terrier is truly the American Gentleman….not to mention the State Dog of Massachusetts!
